I have just finished reading an article on 'Where is your money going' by Sandy Forster and what caught my attention with reading this was the fact the Sandy realised that she had a vice in her life which when out of control was costing her over $200 per month! Guess what vice that was....... Chocolate! Thats right, sweet tasting, innocent looking chocolate. How did she realise she was spending so much money? Sandy started to write down everthing she spent her money on and how much money she spent. This got me thinking.....dangerous pass time I know....Sandy not only realised she could save money by getting her chocolate habit under control but also lose a few kilo's here and there doing it.
So my question to you is, "What vice do you have that is holding you back in life?" Getting control of Chocolate helped Sandy have more money each week and also helped her become more healthier.
I remember facing my vice 6 or so years ago. I had a habit of eating potato chips. By the family packet full. And most days I would have 2 packets to myself! At the time it wasn't the money I was wanting to control but rather my weight gain. Leaving the Navy and no longer being physical all day every day my clothes started to shrink ;-) So I took a photo of myself and realised something had to change. Chips were my biggest vice so I decided to go cold turkey. Wow did that play on my emotions!
After avoiding all chips ailse and then mustering up the courage to walk very quickly down the ailse some days I started to get control back and was able to face them without giving in to the urge to buy and devou. As a great side affect of changing my unhealthy habit I lost a few kilos and gained some coin each week.
But I have to be honest with you. Controlling my vice gave me so much more too. Self confidence when I went to the beach, made better choices for healthier snacks, had money in my wallet always.
What are other vices and how can they hold you back?
1. Alcohol - False sense of confidence, poor judgement, financially draining
2. Cigarettes - Financially draining, poor health, false sense of confidence
3. TV (drama, News) - Poor movement, false view on the world, subjected to limiting beliefs, Negative!! Social conditioning and suppression
4. Gambling - Financially draining, Deceipt, No self control
So if we were able to get these under control and keep them that way what do you think we would gain from this?
1. Self confidence
2. Greater Health
3. Greater Knowlegde of surroundings, health, self, world!
4. Financial Health
5. Less stress
Maybe an exercise for you to do is to take a look at what vice you are spending money on and also what you are spending your time on the most. Then trial doing less of that vice and see what you start to then attract. Mine was chips and I have more money and more knowledge of healthier food choices. I am far more confident to walk down the beach now too...
What do you come up with?
Distraction
Nice post Yellow and a very interesting topic.
I think we should add a 5th vice to the list you created: Internet .
The internet helps me to get distracted and to procrastinate. I don't get the things done I should be doing.
Doing less browsing is a big challenge, as I am interest in too many things. After all we are students for life, aren't we? ;)
I can be on track for 2 or 3 days, but then always something happen and my todo list is flowing over again. I am working on it every week and one day I will make it. I even don't have a TV anymore
